Earthquake in Christchurch

The walls shake in New Zealand… and not only here in the hostel (are now back in the bow-Hostel), is torn in the just remodeled the bathroom and. This morning at approximately. 4.30 Clock because there was an earthquake, its epicenter about. 20 km from Christ Church was. The strength was in the media 7,4 indicated on the Richter scale.

We have even noticed the earthquake thanks to our deep sleep, nothing, other people here but it felt much. Violently, it has made the people of Christchurch, where now the inner city locked due to collapse hazards. Fortunately, so far no deaths have been reported, However, there are many injured.

Who was doing so, to go to in the coming days to Christchurch, should perhaps think about a contingency plan.

Here is a short phone interview with Christchurch Mayor, which is backed by video footage from the city.

gives a brief report the news here: http://www.tagesschau.de/ausland/neuseeland122.html

Here, for information, a tectonic map of the world. You can see exactly, that under New Zealand meet two plates and hence earthquakes are nothing unusual. The strength of the quake is very rare.

Heimreisepläne… not immediately but

Today, at the 31. August 2010, would be the actual date, where we should start our journey home. Indeed, we observed the beginning of the month, that our plane tickets were booked on today's date. And that was no fault of the travel agent, but we had the set when booking in November Sun. Over the whole travel, the many new impressions and the subsequent New Zealand work everyday, we just forget about it only. Thus, we were virtually forced, us to make our actual return on plan thoughts, so that we could make a timely transfer.

Meanwhile, is returning home plan and the transfer is made. Reason enough, you to specify the exact dates of our return Read more…

Car break-in and move-Hostel

Today we had to move out from our beautiful bow-Hostel, hired as an exercise for a week the entire Hostel. We have therefore picked out another beautiful Hostel, packed our things and moved. After this week's is transferred back.

When loading our vans then we have found, that our front passenger door open and that the door lock can no-longer looks like something out of place. More detailed studies then showed scratch marks on the lock, which is clearly in a slump(-attempt) points. The only, what is missing, Quechua is my beautiful soft shell jacket. All other (expensive multi-tool, Sunglasses, Car radio, Kamerastativ…) is still there. Perhaps the perpetrators were from a passing car or similar. surprised and had to hastily cut off. What is strange though, is the fact, that the car door was closed, dh. the perpetrators have locked the door after the break again… what makes the most sense for a?

Stupid thing. I am very happy, that the jacket was not sooooo expensive (Unfortunately, these jackets are very expensive but here in Neuseland). When Caro, Claudi's Pizza Bar-colleague, it was different. In fact, a few days earlier broken into the car, including an expensive jacket. iPod stolen.

What is always annoying but, the damage to the car, because the door lock with something as well usually falls by the wayside. So here's a little tip from the local police: take all valuables out of the car and open the glove compartment, if one takes the car in the evening. So you can see potential intruders, that a burglary is not worth.

Secret Pictures

The transport of mobile phones in the production hall of the fish factory is not allowed. So we was taught at the introductory to start my job. Since we do not but you some insight into the inner workings of a fish factory in New Zealand want to deprive, I have yet ventured, and shot a few photos with my mobile. Also Rola, already departed from Taiwan, this has contributed a couple of pictures.

Unfortunately, the quality of the photos varies greatly and some are really bad. One is abgeknipst even by only one other photo. But I still think you get a rough idea.

Dating, Friendships and farewells

When you get to know Backpackers are usually very many other travelers. Discussions, the one with these people has limited but often only on a few standard questions such as “Where are you from?”, “How long have you been / you will stay in New Zealand?” or “What do you find better: North- or South Island?”. I think this is simply because, that it is exactly, what one with the other travelers here at the most links. Moreover, as soon built up a conversation and found a topic of conversation. Usually separates one but then again the next day, to travel further in different directions, what makes the parting of people for routine. Read more…

Otherwise we work fresh and free in front of us! Whenever I 2 Days Hostel Manager am, the most peculiar things happen. In that one night in the car of a couple's Backpacker (French) broken into and stolen a large travel bag. Fortunately they had in the bag a sign with their e-mail address (which is also incorporated as a hot tip in our same category). The hospital has to be reported, because they found the bag in her garden. Were stolen from either the Souvenirs, even the expensive T-Shirts, but only the dirty-laundry-bag. The damage to the two Frenchmen's still great, since they have only a few days of travel and the repair of the car lost the castle one day. Read more…
